SYLVIA LEONARD WOLF
Fine Art Appraisers & Consultants
Our Services
Expert Witness Testimony

In cases of litigation, we prepare reports prior to a trial, have given depositions, and appeared in courts of law (civil) as an expert witness, in New York, Florida, and Colorado. Fee quotes are given separately from appraisal preparation.
Difficult to Appraise Works
We have experience appraising highly challenging, unique items, considered “impossible to appraise” when few or no readily identifiable direct comparables are available.
For example, our firm was engaged by Skadden, Arps, Maegher & Flom for the highly publicized case between the US government and the family of Abraham Zapruder concerning the fair market value of his unique, vitally important film of President Kennedy’s Assassination. (See reference in - "In The Ring The Trials of a Washington Lawyer" by Robert Bennett, page 279, Crown Publishers, 2008.)

Unique publicly displayed art properties
we have appraised include:
- Chrysler Building, painted mural on ceiling
- Rockefeller Center, contemporary art glass sculpture overlooking skating rink
- Riverside Church, stained glass windows
(17th century and modern) - Empire State Building, stained glass murals
in lobby - McAlpin Hotel, 34th St. & 6th Avenue,
historic ceramic art tiles in ballroom
Estates and Blockage Discount Reports
For large, complex estate issues, we have expertise in performing blockage discount analyses of large collections of fine art, such as the estate of Louise Nevelson, Serge and Vally Sabarsky (with large numbers of German Expressionist works), the estate of Walt Kuhn, and others.
We have performed a number of appraisals for collateral purposes for financial institutions: Chase Bank, U. S. Trust, Bank Leumi, Citibank, as well as for art galleries and individuals.
